race for parenthood 2015-9Pink Team: The Evans’

Our Story, as told by Melissa:

Jason Evans and I met at Ithaca College in upstate New York the fall of 1998. Our first date was to see the movie the Matrix.  When I graduated from college, I told Jason I was moving to Virginia for a job. He did not hesitate to say I’m coming and joined me in Virginia without ever seeing the state.

When we moved to Virginia we had big dreams.  Jason went back to school to get his degree in IT. We made one of our dreams come true by buying a house on a lake outside of Richmond. I have loved working at a state mental health hospital as a rehab supervisor for 10 wonderful years and luckily enough Jason came on board at the same hospital in March 2014 working in the MIS department. We celebrated our 10 the wedding anniversary in June with a trip to Yellowstone National Park. Jason and I know the only missing dream in our adventurous life is a child to share it with.

We have struggled to get pregnant after many years of trying. Doctors diagnosed me with PCOS and low ovarian reserve. We have tried almost every infertility treatment offered by specialists including medications, IUI and IVF to no avail.  We were able to get pregnant after the first IVF treatment but it ended in a miscarriage in early 2014.

Jason and I live by the motto better together.  We have learned to go through lifes ups and downs together and come out better on the other side. We have hope for the future. This is why we will be pursuing domestic infant adoption. I never knew when we thought about adoption what the costs would be.  Boy were we surprised to find out adoption costs for an infant can run  anywhere from $20,000-45,000.  We also have learned all the items that goes into an adoption everything from getting fingerprinted, to having a home study to taking classes to  waiting for the match time. It is a long process one that takes on average 2 years.

We are not letting this stop us and our dream!  That’s why we are excited to be a member of the race to parenthood Team Pink.  We volunteered last year at the race and had a great time cheering on everyone. Please come out walk, run or cheer us on. I know many people live far away so you can support us from afar with a race donation.  When you register to join Team Pink, 100% of your registration fee will go to supporting our parenthood dream.
